The road to membership in the Duchy of Trinsic is broad, quite straightforward and has only a gentle slope and a good view on either side. However,
in order to help you along as good as we can, we have compiled some easy steps that will help to speed up the application process. Nevertheless, should you
have any questions or encounter any difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us for a personal talk. And now... onwards to glory!
- By reading this, you are already way ahead on the first step, which simply is to get to know the Duchy before applying. Browse the website, browse the boards.
Read some here and there to see what it is all about.
Basically, the Duchy of Trinsic is a roleplaying guild based on the Europa Shard in the world of Ultima Online.
Roleplaying means that we try to create characters that live within the game world, have their own lives, their own preferences, manners, friends and foes.
Most of the daily life takes place in and around Trinsic on the Trammel side, with frequent visits and expeditions to other places, guilds and events.
While we do not usually limit our players in what they do or do not do it is fair to say that if your main interest lies in PvP combat in Felucca or Champion Spawns and Dungeon Raids
the Duchy might not be the most suitable guild for your character. But then again, every account gets a few chars at once, so maybe another one will fit for that?
- Read the Rules of engagement. Yes, you knew there had to be a catch somewhere. Basically, the Rules of Engagement set out a framework in which all roleplaying guilds on the Europa Shard play together.
It ensures that all players can engage in combat and have a meaningful chance, not only those that have the time and money to buy magnificent equipment. You do not need to know it by heart, of course. Just skim throught it
and return occasionally until you are familiar with it. Click anywhere on this paragraph to open the Rules of Engagement.
- Another gruesome read awaits, to be perfectly honest. But on the upside its shorter, so you are already past the worst.
The Code of Conduct sets down a rules concerning the behaviour of players. Always be mindful of the fact that behind every character is a living person, that would like to be treated with respect as much as you do.
Even if there is some upset going around, try to stay calm and if you have a problem with another player, inform the guild leaders that will adress it for you. Click anywhere on this paragraph to open the Code of Conduct.
- Create a character!
This is the most fun part, really. Forge the character that you want to play in the Duchy. It does not have to be written down meticulously,
but having a few basic ideas about it helps, especially when you are new to roleplaying. So here are a few things for you to consider:
- Names are important. They are the first thing that people know about you and if your name tag reads something like: "XxX Killa XxX" then people will have a certain
tendency to not take you seriously. Instead, try to have a name that suits the Duchy. Medieval and fantasy names are often good and the NPCs that populate the land can be
good for inspiration, too. Try not to meet Gaylord the provisioner though while hunting for ideas!
- Looks are important too, even if everybody will be eager to tell you how its the inner values that count. Forget that rubbish for now and concentrate on the looks.
Purple beard with neon green mohawk might make you popular in WoW, but Mr. T hasn't made it round to UO yet and so we tend to go with a somewhat more discreet look. In addition to the looks
that the game offers you it might be fun to add your own, for example in your profile. Is your character young or old, pretty or disgusting, large or tall... often it is especially those
characters that are special and out of the ordinary that really get the attention and interest of others.
- Consider the origin and history of your character. Was it born a daughter of the desert in Nujel'm or a stout fellow from the cold mountains north of Minoc?
Why did it come to Trinsic, what are its goals and motives. You will find that your character comes to life easily if you have just a few ideas about who it is and where it came from. (Note:
parents being killed by orcs / daemons / undead / vesperians / ... is a rather popular theme. Give parents a chance and let them live!)
- Who do you want to be today? The possibilities are endless, but please do consider that the Duchy is a virtuous, lawful environment. If you are too obviously a malicious, murderous bastard
then you will end in jail, not in the heart of that cute flower girl at the corner. Try to find something that fits in, either by being aligned to the standards of the city or by being secretive and covert enough to bypass the laws.
- If you have trouble thinking of something or are unsure whether or not your story and character will be a good match, please do talk to us and we will gladly help you to work the kinks out of
your concept.
- Apply! Click anywhere on this paragraph to open the application form, which will ask you the things that we would like to know from you before you are accepted as a member of the Duchy of Trinsic.
Try to fill everything as completely as possible, since that allows the guild leaders to get to know you quickly. Most important are th contact details! If we do not know how to contact you we will not be able to guild
you or to ask additional questions. All your sensitive details, such as e-mail adress and ICQ number, will be handled confidently and you have full control over whether
or not they will be displayed to other members.
- Wait.
- Wait some more...
- Wait a little longer. (The guild leaders really are a lazy bunch, you know.)
- Almost there, just a short wait more. No, seriously, in most cases your application should be processed quickly and the guild leaders will contact you after a day or two at the most.
And anyway, even while you wait, you can already come and talk to us in and around Trinsic. The western gate and jail are usually a good place to find someone around and you can
introduce your character and get to know everything while the management reviews your application.
- That is pretty much it. The last thing to know is that the guild leaders and most of the members will be helpful and supportive, should you ever have a problem or question. Nobody was born a perfect roleplayer, everybody makes mistakes and
there is really nothing to be ashamed of. Unless, maybe, you were dancing naked in the streets with a mongbat on your head. Anyway, your feedback is desired as much as your ideas and plans. Would you
like to do a quest or plot, plan an event or attend one? Just bring it up on the boards and people will join in the discussion.
- Have fun!!
